‘Penola Community’

Grape Growers and Winemakers

 

 

 

This is the website of grape growers and winemakers in the Penola community who’s vineyards are located in that part of the Penola community that was unilaterally declared an Interim Determination for the ‘Penola Wine Region’ by the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation (AWBC) Geographical Indications Committee (GIC) on 9th May 2000  (see map page 4)  with the tacit approval of members of the Coonawarra Vignerons Association and Coonawarra grape Growers Association, and  then on 22nd August 2007 unilaterally aborted by the AWBC GIC in response to objections to the existence of the ‘Penola Wine Region’ now coming from members of the same Coonawarra Vignerons Association (CVA) and Coonawarra Grape Growers Association (CGGA).

 

As of theGIC action taken on 22nd August 2007 in response to CVA and CGGA objections, ‘Penola Community’ grape growers and wine makers have been left with no local regional status and consequently can no longer legally relate to or associate with ‘Penola’ as a Geographical Indication when selling their wines or telling the public where their grapes are grown and their wines come from. As a result of the way in which the decision was (not) made by the GIC, these growers have:
